How to hack motivation.
Most people think motivation comes first.
It doesn't.
Intrinsic motivation is a result, not a prerequisite.
Daniel Pink explains the difference well:
Extrinsic motivation pushes you through rewards or pressure.
Intrinsic motivation pulls you forward from within.
Everyone agrees intrinsic motivation is what sustains long-term success.
Where people get stuck is waiting for it to show up before they act.
Another way to see this is through identity.
James Clear explains that behavior follows identity.
When you see yourself as "the kind of person who does X," you do X.
But identity doesn't come first either.
You earn it after repeated action.
This is the catch-22 that traps most people:
You want to feel like the person first.
But feeling only comes after action.
So waiting to feel ready guarantees you don't start.
Most people stop here.
Not because they're lazy, but because nothing helps them cross this gap.

Here's what works:
Once someone has already committed to a goal, extrinsic motivation can be used as a starter motor.
Not to sustain effort.
Just to trigger the first action.
That's where habits matter.
If the action is small enough, most people comply:
Music: sit down with the instrument.
Exercise: one push-up.
Learning: one quiz question.
The first action isn't about progress.
It's about compliance.
And once people start, they rarely stop at the minimum.
Momentum follows action.
This is where Spark fits.
Spark is a micro-learning execution system.
Sections take ~5 minutes.
A quiz question takes 1-2 minutes.
That lowers the cost of starting.
Through WhatsApp, email, Slack and eventually mobile notifications, Spark will nudge learners to take one small step toward a goal they've already chosen.
These aren't nags.
They're tiny-step reminders of commitments already made.
People start.
And once they do, stopping becomes the hard part.
That's how progress actually happens.
Not through motivation.
Through systems that make starting inevitable.
